About Emily Thomas, LMSW
Clinical Social Worker | LLMSW Supervision | Clinical & Professional Development
Emily has worked as a clinical social worker for more than 20 years, bringing experience across a wide range of clinical, community-based, medical, and administrative settings. Throughout her career, she has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in outpatient therapy, partial hospitalization, inpatient treatment, community mental health, medical social work, physician organizations, mother and baby programs, crisis services, and home-based care. Over the past 12 years, her work has included both direct clinical care and leadership roles, giving her a broad perspective on the realities of clinical practice as well as the systems that shape it.
Emily has advanced training in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), EMDR, Solution-Focused CBT, and CBT. Her professional experience has included serving as a clinical director for a telehealth program, providing therapy for individuals experiencing chronic pain, and completing psychiatric evaluations for remote emergency departments. She values continued learning and has developed a strong understanding of both the clinical and operational sides of social work practice.
Emily earned her degree from Wayne State University in 2012 and has provided supervision to LLMSWs and social work interns since 2014. Supporting developing social workers has become one of the most meaningful parts of her career. She believes supervision should be a space where clinicians feel supported, valued, and heard while also being challenged to strengthen their clinical judgment, confidence, and professional identity.
Emily’s supervision style is individualized, collaborative, and grounded in the needs and goals of each supervisee. She pays particular attention to clinical skill development, documentation, insurance and billing requirements, and the practical realities of working within behavioral health systems. She also recognizes the importance of attending to burnout, compassion fatigue, and sustainability in clinical work. Above all, Emily wants supervisees to know they have a consistent source of support as they continue developing into thoughtful, capable, and confident social workers.
Emily povides supervision to LLMSW clinicians, she does not accept individual therapy clients.
