Michigan Wellbeing is Accepting Applications for a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW) to serve as a Field Supervisor on our Care Continuity Initiative Team

Location: Remote
Commitment: One hour of supervision per week, per student, plus a midterm and a final evaluation
Compensation: Volunteer, with a supervision fee available for candidates whose background closely fits the work. Paid roles are expected to open as the nonprofit clinic secures funding.
Start date: Flexible, with placements beginning in the winter and fall semesters

The Role
We are looking for a licensed social worker to supervise the macro MSW and MPH field placement students joining our Care Continuity Initiative Team. Academic programs in Michigan ask that a licensed social worker meet with each student for one hour each week and complete a midterm and a final evaluation of their work.
Task supervision, meaning the direction of the students' daily projects, is already covered within our organization by the task supervisor. What are looking for a supervisor to provide weekly supervision, as well as a midterm and final evaluations. If you would like a larger role on the team beyond supervision, we would welcome that as well.
Why the Care Continuity Initiative Team exists
Alongside our established virtual practice, Michigan Wellbeing Therapy Clinic is forming a nonprofit outpatient psychiatric clinic. The Care Continuity Initiative Team is being assembled to lead that effort in response to the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan billing changes taking effect in March 2027.
Under those changes, limited licensed clinicians will no longer be able to bill for care delivered in office based practices. That puts two things at risk at once: the continuity of treatment for clients across Michigan who would lose their clinician partway through care, and the supervised hours those clinicians need to reach full licensure. Fewer clinicians reaching full licensure means fewer providers available in the years ahead, at a time when Michigan already does not have enough
We hope the policy is reconsidered before it takes effect, but plan to be preemptively prepared than rely on potential changes to the policy. An accredited outpatient psychiatric clinic qualifies as a facility setting under BCBS rules, and clinicians practicing under one may continue to see their BCBS clients regardless of licensure level. the Care Continuity Initiative Team will also be working to partner with other private and group practices, to prevent a potential disruption in mental health care and so that limited licensed clinicians can continue to work with their BCBS clients.
What the team will be working on
The Care Continuity Initiative Team is responsible for the groundwork a new nonprofit clinic requires before it can open its doors:
Program planning and service design for the new clinic
Community outreach and partnership building with other practices and organizations
Funder research and grant writing
Policy analysis on the BCBS change and what it means for access to care in Michigan
Accreditation preparation, including the policies, procedures, and quality measures a body such as the Joint Commission reviews
Nonprofit formation work, from governance documents through the 501(c)(3) application.
The students placed with us work directly on these projects, which is what their weekly supervision would center on.
Who we are hoping to hear from
We hope to hear from a social worker with experience in program development, grant writing, policy practice, community organizing, or student and early career supervision. We are also open to applicants with less experience in those areas. We are looking for a social worker with exceptional organization ability, the leadership capabilities to direct interns and someone who cares about community based social work and about the clinicians and clients this change will reach. If supervising and supporting future social workers is something you have wanted to move toward and have not yet had the opening for, we would be happy to talk with you.
Requirements to meet school field instruction standards:
A Master of Social Work degree
A current Michigan LMSW
At least two years of post degree social work experience, ideally four
Willingness to complete the school's field instructor paperwork, including a midterm and final evaluation for each student
