Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Therapy: Break Free from Intrusive Thoughts & Compulsions

Healing Starts Here.

OCD is more than just being overly organized or liking things a certain way—it’s a relentless cycle of intrusive thoughts, compulsions, and anxiety that can take over daily life. Whether it’s repetitive rituals, compulsive checking, intrusive fears, or an overwhelming need for certainty, OCD can make even simple tasks feel exhausting. It can disrupt relationships, self-esteem, and overall well-being, leaving many feeling trapped in their own minds.

At Michigan Wellbeing, we understand that OCD isn’t just a set of habits—it’s a deeply ingrained pattern of thought and behavior linked to anxiety, control, and the nervous system’s response to uncertainty. Our therapy approach doesn’t just focus on stopping compulsions; we help you understand why they happen, rewire the patterns that keep OCD in place, and build resilience against intrusive thoughts—without fear taking control.

How We Approach OCD Treatment

Healing from OCD requires more than just resisting compulsions—it involves changing the brain’s relationship to fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. Our approach blends evidence-based strategies with deeper nervous system and relational work to address OCD at its root.

  • Breaking the Cycle of Obsessions & Compulsions — OCD thrives on the belief that compulsions provide relief—but in reality, they reinforce anxiety. Through Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness techniques, we help you develop healthier ways to respond to intrusive thoughts, reducing their grip over time.

  • Addressing the Anxiety Beneath OCD — OCD is often fueled by an intolerance of uncertainty, perfectionism, or deep-seated fears of losing control. We work to identify these underlying drivers, using cognitive restructuring, nervous system regulation, and behavioral strategies to create a sense of stability and trust in yourself.

  • Healing the Nervous System’s Overactive Response — OCD isn’t just in the mind—it’s a nervous system reaction that keeps you in a cycle of heightened anxiety. Somatic therapy and polyvagal-informed interventions help retrain the body’s stress response, creating more ease and flexibility when facing triggers.

  • Shifting from Avoidance to Acceptance — Many people with OCD struggle with avoiding thoughts, emotions, or situations that feel overwhelming. Our approach includes mindfulness, self-compassion, and ACT-based strategies to help you develop a different relationship with your thoughts—so they lose their power over you.
